The political landscape of Bihar is at a decisive turning point, with two key figures—Prashant Kishor (PK) and Mukesh Sahni—emerging as significant players outside the mainstream power structure.

Prashant Kishor’s ‘Long-Term Game’ strategy is centered on his ambitious Jan Suraj movement, which aims to bring a fundamental “system change” to Bihar. Unlike traditional leaders who depend on alliances or positions of power, PK is working at the grassroots level, investing time in building a political base that can sustain itself in the long run. His approach relies on creating a narrative of governance reform, people’s participation, and a challenge to the deep-rooted caste dynamics that dominate Bihar’s politics. The upcoming election results will reveal whether his slow-but-steady groundwork is beginning to translate into real political influence.

On the other hand, Mukesh Sahni finds himself in a far more uncertain situation. Despite being part of the NDA alliance, the Exit Polls have raised concerns for him. His political strength primarily comes from a specific caste vote bank, but shifting alliances and unstable electoral equations pose a risk to his long-term relevance. Sahni is now fighting not just for seats, but for political survival and identity in an increasingly competitive environment.

Together, PK and Sahni represent two different models of political evolution in Bihar—one rooted in ideology and grassroots organization, and the other driven by caste arithmetic and strategic positioning. As the state awaits the results on 14th November, the future of both leaders—and Bihar’s political direction—hangs in the balance. Mukesh Sahani
